Summertime is officially here, vaccines are up (but not by enough) and things are returning to “normal” whether we want them to or not – whether we’re ready or not. Ali and I have been out to see a couple of movies, ate dinner at actual restaurants a few times. I have my first concerts since 2019 on the books for later this summer. It’s weird.
I’m ready to get back out there – to enjoy life again. We’ve seen some family and friends. We’re seeing more soon, and giving everyone big hugs.
I hope you’re all vaccinated, and staying masked when appropriate. Enjoy living again just please continue to be safe.
This month’s playlist features Arlo Parks, Screaming Females, Soccer Mommy, Owen, Lili Trifilio, and much more.

I love Lucy Dacus – her voice slays me. She recently covered Dishwalla’s Counting Blue Cars and it is amazing.
There’s a new sub-genre or wave of post-punk/post-rock emerging in a post-Brexit UK similar to the explosion of UK punk bands in the era of Margaret Thatcher. Some of the bands have been featured on past playlists in this newsletter (Squid, Shame, Black Country New Road, and others).
Adult Swim was either the greatest thing ever (Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, etc.) or too weird for me. It went guardrail to guardrail with me often. Someone collected a ton of the songs used in the bumps between commercial breaks on this Spotify playlist.
Stereogum has a great interview with Home is Where (who has one of my favorite albums of the year so far). The interview also links to a 20+ minute live performance in their garage.
The lead singer of Home is Where also created a great 4+ hour playlist of 5th wave emo songs.
Ska Tune Network did a cover of Britney Spear’s Toxic. #FreeBritney
