🎧 Downbeat.fm Vol. 3 Track 5

I was all set to write this month’s newsletter about the end of the line of iPods, and what those devices meant for me but after the brutal murder of innocent children at their school in Uvalde, Texas I can’t write about anything other than that.

I was a month away from graduating high school when Columbine happened. Politicians could have taken action then, but didn’t. Politicians had so many opportunities to take action on guns and protect people, but Republicans have blocked any idea that has been brought up.

There have been eight mass shootings in Texas in the past 13 years. Greg Abbott and the rest of the Texas state Republicans have been making it easier and easier to get guns since he took office in 2015.

In 2017 there was a mass shooting at Texas First Baptist Church where 26 people were killed.

In 2018 10 people were killed at a high school outside Houston.

In 2019 23 people were killed at an El Paso Walmart (also a hate crime) and 7 people were killed in Midland-Odessa.

And now just this past week 21 people - including 19 children were slaughtered in their classrooms.

These are just the big ones in Texas in the past four years. There have been many more throughout the country.

Enough is enough. Guns have no place in a society. They serve one purpose, and that is to kill.

Fuck guns. Fuck Greg Abbott. Fuck Mitch McConnell. Fuck the NRA.

Here’s how you can help:

Stay angry, and keep the pressure on elected officials. Thoughts and prayers are bullshit and do nothing. We need action, and we need strong gun control now.
